The Argiope project was created in Brussels at the instigation of Léo Christ, Kaïs Frihat and
Antonin Busson. The five-member group features Antonin Busson (trumpet), Hadrien Pierson
(drums), Kaïs Frihat (electric bass), Simon Cogels (synthesizer, keyboard) and Léo Christ
(composition/guitar).
Argiope draws its musical inspiration from eclectic backgrounds ranging from modern jazz
and hip-hop to baroque and electronic music.
This wide variety of influences has enabled the
project to cultivate rich, varied sounds and a melodic language of its own.
Each piece is a sensory experience, a journey through atmospheres that merge past and future,
classical and contemporary. Blending jazz, baroque and electronic music, the group develops
innovative sounds that transcend eras and genres to sculpt vibrant, captivating soundscapes.
Léo Christ started his musical training at the age of 6 at his hometown music school. At the age of nine, he joined the Maîtrise de Garçons de Colmar conducted by Arlette Steyer. In
parallel, he took oboe lessons at the Colmar Conservatory. This curriculum enabled him to further develop his taste for classical and baroque music. He discovered guitar and blues at the age of twelve, which gave him an initial insight into the world of improvised music. In his sixteenth year, he naturally moved on to jazz. After graduating from high school, he entered Bernard Struber’s jazz class at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg. In 2022, he moved to the Brussels Conservatory. Since then, he has lived in Brussels, working on a variety of musical projects while teaching guitar at a music school in Uccle.
Following a classical training course at the Conservatoire Départemental de Romainville, Antonin performed in various orchestras. He began practising jazz in workshops led by Didier
and joined the jazz curriculum at the CRR Aubervilliers, performing in various bands in the Paris suburbs. From 2017 to 2021, he performed mainly at swing dance halls in the Paris region with the group Swinguez Moustache. With this band, he toured Germany and
released an album in 2021. Since September 2019, he has been playing on the Brussels scene in a variety of projects, and is currently taking his Master degree in jazz trumpet at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles.
He pursued his postgraduate studies at the Institut Supérieur de Musique de Tunis, where he graduated with a fundamental master degree in music and musicology. Kaïs Frihat has taught at several private regional institutes and attended various workshops and academic coaching under the guidance of artists such as Richard Rousselet, Benoit Vanderstraten, Micheal Hatzigeorgio, Manuel Hermia, Pirly Zurstrassen among others. Kaïs Frihat studied at
the JAZZ-STUDIO Antwerpen (2016) and completed his second bachelor degree (2021) and master degree at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, with a jazz specialization (2022).
From an early age, he had the opportunity to take part in numerous regional and international festivals, such as the Carthage International Festival, Hammamet International Festival, TDX, Carthage Musical Days Festival, Brussels Jazz Weekend, Jazz Maghreb Days (FRA) and many more. He has also performed with artists such as; Faya Younan, Wael Jassar, Abdulrahmen Mohamed, Low Deep T, Aytaç Doğan, Lobna Noomene etc. Kaïs Frihat is now performing on the European scene.
Simon Cogels started classical piano at the age of 6 with private lessons, then went on to study at the Académie de Musique Anderlecht for 10 years. His jazz piano initiation began at the
age of 10 at the Académie de Musique de Forest. At the same time, he focused on the fundamental role of rhythm. He discovered percussion through the Djembe, and still pursues
this rhythmic “quest” today through various bands. After high school, he studied for 1 year at the Jazz Studio (Antwerp) in preparation for the admission exam to the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles (CRB), where he had the opportunity to study with the internationally renowned Belgian pianist Eric Legnini. Thanks to him, he enriched not only his jazz vocabulary, but also that of pop, funk and soul. Today, he is musically active as a pianist, keyboardist, vocalist and
percussionist in several groups of different styles, including Berre (pop) and Kids of the elephant (pop/funk).
Hadrien Pierson’s musical journey began at an early age, when he learned to play the piano. During his teenage years in Brussels, he discovered his vocation as a drummer and quickly caught the eye for his love of music and willingness to learn. This resulted in his admission to the Berklee College of Music, where he honed his skills and deepened his musical knowledge.
Afterwards, Hadrien moved to New York and collaborated with various artists, bringing his drumming talent to a wide range of musical genres, including Rock, (Neo)Soul, RnB and electronic music. Back in his hometown, Hadrien collaborated with numerous artists from all over Europe, immersing himself in African music and adding a new dimension to his already versatile repertoire, while still exploring new sounds to add to his drum set.
